Hair Extensions: A Historical and Practical Overview

Over 3,300 years ago, an elegantly coiffured woman with sophisticated hair extensions was interred in Ancient Egypt, marking an early fascination with hair embellishment. Unlike the mummified elite, her body was simply wrapped, yet her hairstyle, featuring around 70 extensions in various layers, showcased remarkable complexity.

The earliest recorded instance of hair extensions dates back to 3400 BC among Egyptians, who adorned themselves with wigs, braided human hair, and dyed sheep's wool, secured with resin and beeswax. Peacock blue was notably Cleopatra’s colour of choice. By the 1700s in Europe and America, powdered wigs became the rage, overshadowing extensions for a time. This era saw men, women, and children donning wigs daily for fashion, with the demand for human hair occasionally leading to stealthy hair thefts. Remarkably, men's wigs reached heights over 1.5 feet, sometimes adorned with a small hat, dubbed "Macaroni" wigs. Women, too, embraced extravagant wig styles, incorporating a variety of decorations into their towering hairdos.

Transition to Modernity

The 1900s introduced "switches" or what we know today as clip-ins, enhancing versatility in hairstyling. The 1960s celebrated voluminous hair, with pieces and fillers supporting popular styles like the beehive, illustrating the evolving nature of hair adornments to align with fashion trends.

Techniques Covered in Our Hair Extension Course

• Tape Hair Extensions: Utilizes double-sided tape attached to wefts of high-quality human hair, offering a seamless and flexible method that's gentle on the scalp.

• Micro Ring Hair Extensions: A no-glue, no-heat technique using colour-coded rings that blend with your root colour for a natural look.

• Fusion Hair Extensions: An age-old method preferred by figures like Cleopatra, involving strand-by-strand attachment for a customized look.

• Nano Ring Hair Extensions: Features the smallest rings for extensions, offering a discreet and durable option without the need for chemicals or heat.

Training Experience

Our training focuses on hands-on practice with training heads, covering application, removal, maintenance, and preparation for subsequent applications. We address client-specific scenarios, ensuring comprehensive skill development. With a maximum of four participants per session, individual attention is guaranteed, culminating in a Beauty Industry Approval certificate.

Curriculum Highlights

• Practical Insights: Identifying when extensions may be unsuitable, understanding hair composition, comparing extension types and methods, and establishing pricing.

• Client Engagement: Mastering consultations, creating customer profiles, and effectively promoting services.

• Technical Mastery: Preparing workstations, selecting the appropriate extension method and hair type, zoning the head for application, and executing the extension or thickening treatment proficiently.
